  Annual Student Energy Congress (ASEC)

ASEC 2024

March 11th - March 13th

 Honorary patronage

 Honorary patronage

It all started with the idea of organizing an event that would bring together students and experts from the world of oil and gas, mining and geoengineering industries. After eleven years of its existence, ASEC has grown into the largest and most impactful student energy congress in Europe.

Beyond a congress, ASEC has become a journey of discovery and creativity, a chance to connect with industry leaders, explore cutting-edge technologies, and influence the future of energy. Today, ASEC represents a chance to immerse in today's industry practices and shape the world of tomorrow.

The entire program of the ASEC project consists of a series of lectures by experts from the scientific and business sectors, the organization of workshops aimed at solving specific problems and issues within the industry, panel discussions with well-known personalities from the profession, student presentations and field visits to the most interesting localities within the industry.

Every year, as part of ASEC, we gather over 200 students, of which more than 100 are students from outside Croatia (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, England, France, Scotland, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Sweden...)

Due to the continuous good results and active participation in the work of the Croatian and European SPE, for the fifth year in a row, as part of ASEC 2024, SPE.ZG has the honor of organizing the largest European championship in the knowledge quiz from the oil and energy industry - PetroBowl (2024 SPE PetroBowl Europe Regional Qualifier) and the opportunity to host the authors of the best student technical papers  at the SPC competition (2024 Student Paper Contest).

Thanks to the trust shown by the parent association "Society Of Petroleum Engineers", this year we are also excitedly anticipating the arrival of over 20 teams of students and their professors from the most prestigious European universities who will compete in a knowledge quiz (PetroBowl) and present technical works at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level (SPC).

  SPE Cares humanitarian program

Through solidarity, engagement and joint work, student humanitarian actions provide an opportunity for young people to actively participate in creating positive changes in their environment.

As in previous years, motivated by the initiative to help the community in which we are located, in collaboration with other student associations operating within the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum of the University of Zagreb, we organized a humanitarian campaign in the form of collecting funds, hygiene items, didactic toys and shoes for children in the children's home in Nazorova and the Klaićeva children's hospital.

Grateful for the higher education opportunities that our parents afforded us with their immense care, work and effort, every year we strive to provide the same to those who are the most vulnerable within our community.

During the four days of the campaign, with tea, coffee and snacks, we opened the hearts of other students, as well as professors, employees and associates of the faculty who wholeheartedly supported this campaign.

Thanks to the help provided, the goal was realized with exceptional success, and the needy children, with whom we had the opportunity to socialize with games and conversation, reciprocated with the greatest possible gift that anyone can receive. And that is a smile full of warmth and a hug full of love.

As in everything we do, this act has its own goal. The action itself was organized in an effort to raise awareness of social problems and community needs, because at last the biggest changes start from the smallest people.

  SPE.ZG in Europe

PetroBowl is an international knowledge quiz competition organized by SPEI (Society of Petroleum Engineers International), where 32 teams from all over the world compete against each other representing their universities.

The PetroBowl team of the University of Zagreb, made up of students from the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum, achieved an enviable result at the recently held European competition held as part of the Annual Student Energy Congress 2023 organized by the Student Association of the Student Branch of the SPE of the University of Zagreb.

At ASEC 2023, held from March 20 to 22, 2023,

our PetroBowl team, composed of Luka Zrilić, Ivan Velić, Filip Mateševac and Stipe Šućur, won third place in the knowledge quiz, thus qualifying for the world championship in the same quiz, which was held at ATCE 2023 (Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition) in San Antonio, Texas, United States of America.

We are extremely proud of our SPE.ZG representatives for pushing yourselfs into persuit of knowlege in science and industy fields.

We wish for all the students to get involved into great opportunities SPE is offering.

We wish you all the best and to remember that excellence is a choice that SPE Zagreb team and RGN faculty are always happy to make.

RSOM is a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow industry professionals and exchange ideas about business opportunities, issues and accomplishments in our sector. It is also an event for networking, section management, best practice sharing and learning. SPE events are focused on the need to display leadership in the industry with collaborative support from the industry. It is important for a successful event to have all the key stakeholders as part of our membership pool, as this brings diversity and collaboration to the table.

This forum provides an opportunity for exchange of, and exposure to, members from the entire region. Up to 90 Energy professionals experts attended this event, comprising SPE European section board members, SPE regional award winners and students.

At the aforementioned gathering, we had the honor of receiving an award for continuous success in the four-year organization of Petrobowl and SPC as part of ASEC, which represents the first award of its category in the history of SPE Europe.

This is just one in a series of visits in the long history of SPE.ZG that reminds us of the importance of our continuous work and effort.
